Class Descriptions

Ballet/Tap Combo Classes

4 - 6 years old:

  • This class will follow a traditional format of a classical ballet class to include basic barre exercise and center practice. Children will also demonstrate skills and combinations traveling across the floor. The tap portion consists of rhythm and musicality set to fun music with accumulating movements in the tradition of tap.

Ballet

Ballet Levels by age group and difficulty

  • The foundation of all dance forms. Body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work.

3 - 4 years old - Intro to Ballet:

  • This is an introduction to ballet incorporating basic terminology with the positions of the feet, hands and body.

 

7 - 8 years old:

  • Physical discipline, general body awareness, and control coordinating with elementary technique and terminology.

 

11 - 13 years old:

  • Understanding the relationship between music, rhythm and controlled movement with proper ballet technique.

 

Teen:

  • New and more complex material will be taught at an accelerated pace. Student will begin to learn basic ballet history and develop a knowledge and great appreciation of the great ballets, classical music and famous dancers.

 

Advanced Teen:

  • An advanced class combining skills from previous level classes and correlating steps to lengthy and complex combinations with correct technique, extensive terminology and knowledge of the art of ballet itself.

Musical Theatre

12 - 14 years old & High School ages welcome

  • Sing-Dance-Act! This class is an introduction to the Musical Theater genre for young children. This class will provide young students the opportunity to explore acting exercises, simple movement for musical theater and an introduction to singing. Students will learn songs and movement from current and classic musicals in preparation for an end of semester in class presentation.

Jazz

9 - 11 years old (Early Jazz):

  • This is an energetic class that will include stretching and cardiovascular warm Up along with basic body isolations and coordination exercises using upbeat And popular music.

11 - 13 years old:

  • Basic combinations of rhythmic, percussive movements of traditional jazz style. This is a wonderful way to expand energy and learn to dance at the same time.

12 - 14 years old & High School ages:

  • Basic combinations of rhythmic, percussive movements of traditional jazz style. This is a wonderful way to expand energy and learn to dance at the same time.

Modern

Various ages:

  • Modern dance explores movement, space, rhythm and the dancer’s own creativity with emphasizes on momentum, shapes and patterns. This form of dance is inspired by nature, music, art, and human emotions.

Tap

4 - 5 years old (Pre-Tap):

  • This is an introduction to tap using basic tap steps and slow music so children can develop a sense of rhythm and learn to count music while dancing at the same time.

5 – 8 years old (Basic Tap):

  • Basic combinations of rhythmic, percussive movements of traditional jazz style. This is a wonderful way to expand energy and learn to dance at the same time.

Teen - Advanced High School Teen:

  • Rhythm patterns for the feet including, standard time steps, percussive styles and rhythms through the more complicated steps of the Tap repertoire.

Hip Hop

Various ages:

  • This course will introduce students to classic and contemporary hip-hop dance technique. Students will demonstrate hip-hop dance skills through warm-ups and choreographed routines. This class will also explore the culture and music of hip-hop and other related styles of dance such as African dance, jazz, and pop/culture dance.
