What to expect at auditions
Come prepared to move and have fun! All you need is your bare feet and comfortable dance clothes- please make sure we can see your body lines, cover ups must be able to be removed. If you're unsure of your level, don't worry. Auditions are very relaxed (like taking a dance class) and are structured for students of all ages and abilities. Regardless of your dance background, we encourage you to come learn about Xtensions
We'll provide information about schedules, fees, activities, etc. We are prepared to answer all of your questions!
About the company
Our unique approach to dance is designed to help young artists develop physically, emotionally, and intellectually. CORExtensions teaches various dance techniques, but more importantly, we teach our dancers how to be thinking artists.
The CORExtensions experience
Young people are invited to audition so that the directors can assess the level of each students' interest. Auditions also give families an opportunity to learn about the Company, to see if our mission aligns with the needs of their children. In order to provide a rich artistic and creative experience, Company members are expected to attend classes and rehearsals for a full year.
Our choreography requires you to attend 100% of rehearsals. Absences require 2 weeks advance notice and may not exceed 3 excused absences. NO DANCER may miss rehearsals or activities in the months of March, April, May and June. The Director and Choreographers reserve the right to limit a dancers' participation if his/her presence is deemed insufficient. It's a team effort, we expect you to do your part, too.
Training Requirements for 2010:
Our XI Dancers must take a minimum of two ballet, one jazz and one modern class per week in addition to their scheduled rehearsals and the XII and XIII Dancer will be required to take one ballet, one jazz and one modern per week in addition to any electives they choose. Any additional electives, tap, hip hop, yoga or pilates is the dancers choice, but are not mandatory. Remember, a versatile dancer is a strong, well prepared dancer!
During the school week, we meet in age-specific groups for technique class, so the artistic directors can fully focus on developing specific technical and choreographic skills, at an appropriate level. On scheduled Thursdays or Saturdays, when the entire company comes together, unique relationships are formed across the age groups. Dancers learn to recognize the qualities of expression that others bring to their artistic work. Layers of mentoring take place as the entire company works together.
Company Fees
We offer fundraising for the group and use Company dues to offset expenses to the families. We have a "package" price that covers all of your tuitions at a discount, as a thank you for the extra time your dancer and family will commit to the company mission.
